About Us

Liz and Andrew Baker

Owners of The Baker’s Pig and creators of Coed Tir George

We are Liz and Andrew Baker, local business owners in Upper Brynamman. We run a small hill farm located on the edge of the Bannau Brycheinog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.

After losing our son, George in 2009, we had the opportunity to visit a place called The Sand Rose Project, in Cornwall. It was the perfect get-away location to escape to, and to begin our journey of healing and acceptance. When we returned home, we looked for a suitable spot to create a woodland retreat here in Wales that would honor the memory of George.

Use sanctuary and journey that honor the grief process

Use building healing spaces rather than building a lodge

We know from our own experience that being able to get away somewhere in nature, away from the pressures of everyday life, is essential for coming to terms and processing the loss of a loved one. After our son George died in 2009, we had the opportunity to visit a place called The Sand Rose Project, in Cornwall.

We are creating a unique resource, here in Wales for for bereaved families to get away from their typical daily life where they may be encountering struggles coping at work, home, within their family or internally.

After losing our son, it was just too painful to go to the same places that we had visited together as a family. Finding new places together that had no connection with George really helped with the healing process. So we have started our Social Enterprise Coed Tir George to create a network of farm retreats across Wales that can provide a nurturing safe space for families to visit.

The first step on our journey is to create space on our farm to support these families. We intend to build holiday lodges that we can rent out to generate profits that will be used to provide free stays for families dealing with bereavement. We also intend to expand the project to create a network of safe spaces for families from across the whole UK.
